Why refinish instead of replace

If the boxes are solid and the layout works, replacing cabinetry is mostly buying new doors at a very high price. Refinishing keeps the structure you already paid for and changes the entire look of the kitchen. It is also far faster — a refinish is measured in days, a replacement in weeks with a torn-up kitchen the whole time.

How we refinish cabinets

1. Label and remove every door and drawer front, with hardware bagged and tracked so it goes back exactly where it came from.
2. Degrease. Kitchen cabinets carry cooking oil film, especially around the range. Coatings will not stick to it, so it comes off first.
3. Degloss and sand the existing finish to give the primer a mechanical bite.
4. Fill and repair dents, chipped edges, and old hardware holes if the pulls are changing.
5. Bonding primer on every surface — this is the step that decides whether the finish chips in year one.
6. Spray the finish in coats, with sanding between, using a cabinet-grade enamel that cures hard.
7. Reinstall and adjust doors and drawers so everything hangs even.

We default to Sherwin-Williams products and Sherwin-Williams color matching on cabinet work. Cabinet enamels are not wall paint — they are formulated to level out smooth and cure to a hard film that survives fingernails, cleaning products, and daily use. If you bring us a color from another brand's fan deck, we will match it in Sherwin-Williams rather than switching systems.

How long it takes and what your kitchen looks like meanwhile

A typical kitchen runs three to five working days depending on door count. Cabinet enamel needs cure time even after it is dry to the touch, so plan to be gentle with the doors for the first couple of weeks — that is normal for every cabinet coating, not a defect. We will tell you exactly when you can load the cabinets back up.
